Alpena Scouts Honor Veterans On Flag Day

The cub scouts of Alpena troop 3092 and boy scouts troop 92 teamed up to retire flags for veterans on flag day

“The process starts out, we make sure that they’re, folded properly. So they had to be folded in a triangle, and they got to be all blue. All blue’s got to be shown. And then, once that’s ready to go, then once the fire started, we say a little prayer and then we put it in” said Brian Ulch, Alpena Cub Master,Troop 3092.

The scouts put on at least three flag ceremonies a year. This is their second annual flag day retirement ceremony.

“I enjoy it with the kids. Make sure, you know, because they get to put it in themselves. we make sure that they’re responsible and respectful for the flags and for the people that have, you know, passed, you know, died for them” said Ulch.

Ulch says the scouts are currently seeking new members. They meet every Tuesday from 6–7 pm. Cub scouts range from kindergarten up to 5th grade and boy scouts are ages 11 to 18. For more information on becoming a scout, you can call 989–884–1363.
